Rested and refreshed...

Hubby and I took some time for some R&R recently and it was wonderful! I won't go into details here other than to say it was so nice to be away from the responsibilities, phone calls, computers, and all of the electronic/other interruptions in our daily lives.

We did see a bear on this path and found out later that he/she had just caught a fish or two! Being out in nature always reminds me of what's important in my life and I think that's just one of the benefits of getting away for a little while.

Now I'm back in the shop getting out orders and getting caught up with all my paperwork.

Here's the knitting I'm working on presently. Using Red Hearts Heart and Sole Sock yarn in Razzle Dazzle colorway, I'm knitting my standard sock pattern but am doing an 8-stitch repeat rib down the leg and onto the foot. I'm really happy with this inexpensive yarn and the way it looks using this rib pattern. It feels good too!


DH and I have decided to take next week as our "staycation" week. So, if you place an order in the shop after Thursday (9/3/09), it won't be shipped until 9/15 or so. We'll be here, but we've vowed not to turn on the computer or do any business the entire week. We'll probably make a few day trips and just generally take it easy and relax.

I've also heard from Westminster Fabrics regarding the charm packs, fat quarter packs, 2 1/2" designer rolls and quilt kits that I ordered w-a-y back in May. I was told I'll be lucky if I get them. I'm really disappointed and I'm not going to count on getting them. I will work on putting my own "designer rolls" together. Kaffe also has a new book coming out in Oct/November timeframe and I'm going to put some quilt kits together for that.

This is PL's last day at the beach (with me, of course) before she heads back to work. We try to spend one day a week at the beach every summer. This summer, however, we've both been busy with "projects" so our beach time suffered. We got a lot done though, so it was OK!


There was so much activity today. We saw several groups (3-5 in a group) of harbor seals and many single seals, all folicking in the sea. It must have been a good fishing day also because the Pelicans were also extremely busy, diving into the water right in front of us! I've never seen it like this before. The only thing we didn't see were dolphins. I wonder where they were?

I've been Christmas shopping already. A visit to LL Bean and I have the perfect gift for my niece and nephew! Thank goodness they don't read my blog! I love LL Bean and have visited their store in Freeport, Maine many times in the past. I wouldn't mind living there since Maine is a gorgeous state. There's just something about it that grabs me and won't let go. Maybe it's the wonderful lobster. Portland, Boothbay Harbor and Camden are all my favorite places. Just writing about it makes me want to go NOW! On our last trip my diet consisted of lobster for every meal followed at lunch by a Ben & Jerry's ice cream cone and I LOST 7 lbs!! Yummy!

So Relaxed.........

Our trip to Mammoth was wonderful....wish you could have been there with us! We stayed in a great condo at Mountainback and made short day trips from there. We visited Lake Mary (one of the Mammoths lakes)



and we drove to Twin Lakes, just northwest of Bridgeport, for a day!



Then we scouted out the June Lake areas four lakes (June, Gull, Silver & Grant)....June Lake below



and Silver Lake, where we rented a fishing boat and spent the day on the lake. It was so relaxing and funny. We had a "pet duck" who followed us in our boat all the way around the lake, several times!! Of course, we were feeding him, but that little duck was the fastest swimmer I've seen in a long time. On shore, fishermen were catching trout up to a foot long.



One discovery we made brought back great childhood memories. We used to go camping/fishing quite a bit when I was a kid but I could never remember where we went. Well, we discovered Rock Creek Lake and the many campgrounds on the road there and it just snapped into place for me....that's where we used to go! Great memories!! I wonder if my sis would remember it too?
