Tuesdays... with a view!

It's Tuesday and that means quilting at Jane's house. She has re-done her backyard since the last time I posted photos of it, and it's quite stunning and very different than it was. If you're curious to see the difference, check it out here.

She and her husband spent hours and hours pulling out all the trees and grass and then Jane spent additional time planning the new layout of her garden and getting it all planted. It's been done for a little less than a year and has already grown quite a bit. It's now a drought-tolerant and gorgeous space!

We don't sew out in this part of the yard, but we're sitting in the shade of the garage right in front of it and we can see the gorgeous Crape Myrtle tree through the window. Lucky us!!

Take care,

Tuesdays and Thursdays...

I've mentioned before about the great quilting group that I belong to and that we meet every Tuesday and Thursday during the summer. We only have a couple more weeks before we go back to our Fall/Winter/Spring schedule of meeting at Jane's on Tuesday and Quilter's Studio on Thursday.

I always take a moment during the day to walk around Jane's yard and appreciate the beauty. I'm mesmerized by the mosaic she painted on the side of one of her outside walls. She has such imagination... it looks wonderful!!

We've had such a lovely summer and only one day where it was too hot to stay the entire day. We usually get a nice breeze that keeps us from feeling the heat. We have lots of lively discussions and we share what's going on in our lives. I would say that we all come from pretty different backgrounds and have lots of different interests but the quilting is what brings us together and makes us a cohesive unit. We have such fun and I love these ladies for allowing me to join in!!

Just an update...

Well.... Gayle and I didn't get our Daytripper bags finished yesterday so we'll be working on them again tomorrow. We're just starting the lining so we should have finished bags by the end of the day.

In the meantime, I want to show you what Jane is working on. She will donate this quilt, when it's finished, to her sister's church group to be put up for auction. She's already devoted many, many hours to it and plans on spending more time till she get it to a place where she feels it's finished.

Jane had it lying on the driveway in the sun to see just how much "sparkle" it had, and that's where this photo was taken. You can kinda see scale/size in relation to my shoes.

These detail shots show just how much work Jane has put into this quilt already. I wish you could all see it in person since my pics simply don't do it justice.

This type of art quilt making intrigues me. To just go with a "vision" until it's finished is a totally foreign concept for me, and I admire it greatly. And, then to give it away... how very generous!!

Take care,

My Tuesdays...

I've talked a bit about my Tuesday group and all the fun we have, but I thought it would be a nice idea to document it. We (there are six of us regularly, occasionally there is a seventh) meet at Jane's house, in Thousand Oaks, which has an absolutely wonderful view of the entire Conejo valley from her front yard and garage, where we sit to sew/quilt.

Her backyard is gorgeous, too, and a result of many, many hours of hard work. We could sit out here and eat lunch, but we can rarely tear ourselves away from our projects long enough to do it, although last Tuesday when the temps got up in the mid 90s we did sit for awhile in the shade and had a nice, breeze to cool us.

And, we have a couple of mascots, although I could only get one of them to pose for me. Here's Mason... isn't he the cutest thing?

We always have some good treats on hand...

While we're busy working on Zip & Go bags... Stacey's and Jane's.

2-Zip Hipsters... Stacey's, Jane's & Pat A's (we have two Pat's in our group, although we sometimes refer to one of them as Grannie).

More fabric baskets... Jane's (getting just a little carried away) and Stacey's (this is her second one).

And then there is this... Stacey's Moose Rag quilt. The cutest rag quilt I've ever seen.

As I said, we quilt/sew in Jane's garage. She's converted it into her studio and it's set up quite well to accommodate all of us. We can sit and sew to our heart's content all the while being able to look out over the Conejo Valley or retreat into her backyard to relax. It's heavenly. I didn't get photos of the entire garage, but I did get Pat A's area in which she is auditioning fabrics for her newest quilt.

And Pat P is making Noodlehead's Super Tote. Great fabric choices, don't you think?

I hope you can tell from all I've written just how much fun we have and how creative we are. I get such great inspiration from these wonderful ladies... every single week! I'm looking forward to tomorrow. :)

Take care,
