if you live in my neck of the woods, this weekend is the Glendale Quilt Show. It's usually a pretty good show with lots of wonderful vendors in attendance.
Teachers are great, location is nice and easy to access, and parking is plentiful. Don't miss it!

Today...
I'll be at the International Quilt Festival in Long Beach. We go every year on Friday - it's become a tradition now.
Long Beach is such a wonderful city - there's so much to see and do and the weather is divine. The Convention Center is right across the street from the water too, so it's very picturesque.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

International Quilt Festival in Long Beach begins Thursday night with a preview, and continues through the 26th! I'll be there on Friday with a few friends and we'll see how this year compares to last. I heard the rumor that the City of Long Beach was not prepared for the sheer volume of quilters that descended upon the city and convention center last year. I'm sure those problems will have been corrected for this years event!

Long Beach is a wonderful city, by the way. The convention center is directly across the street from the Aquarium, which is great fun, and the Queen Mary is just around the corner, so there's no shortage of things to do and see! And, if that's not enough, you can hop in the car and drive over to San Pedro to eat at an outdoor fish market where the food is exquisitely good! There are also many wonderful restaurants within walking distance of the convention center, though, so a car is not an absolute necessity.

Anyway, whatever you do....if you go, HAVE FUN and SPEND LOTS OF $$$ :))

Add me to the long list of shop owners and bloggers invited to join the Quilt QUA family. Connie has compiled a very comprehensive list of quilt shops, teachers, patterns, machines, quilting services, quilting blogs, travels and retreats, and more...

If, for some reason, you haven't been invited yet, please contact Connie at quiltqua at gmail dot com to add your name to the list.
The quilting world is full of wonderful people and I'm so happy to be just a small part of it.
Take care,

We ran into John Flynn while at Road to California. What a nice man and great quilter! He said he's been in the "quilt business" for around 17 years when I asked him how long he's been vending at shows.

As we were walking through the aisles, I spied this gal coming towards me with this bag over her shoulder. Isn't it great? Made with all the beautiful Kaffe fabrics. Linda was kind enough to let me photograph her with her bag! Thanks Linda!

Here is an outfit entitled, Moody Blue Ensemble. I can't say I'm a huge fan off quilted clothing, but this outfit was wonderful. It didn't seem bulky and honestly, if you didn't know she had quilted it herself, you would have sworn she bought the fabric that way. Exceptional quilting. As much as I love color, I think this was done very tastefully with the pale blue and dark brown.

Here is Mountain Chapel in all it's glory and a couple of closeups.

More to come...
I apologize for the fuzziness of some of the photos. It was difficult to get good shots with the lighting. I hope you're enjoying the quilts regardless!

Here are some of the glorious quilts from Road to California.
This first photo is one of the many quilts on display in the Superior Threads booth. I wanted to get a shot of the complete quilt but there were just too many people in the booth. This closeup shows what a gorgeous quilt it is. I love the lime green, chartreuse and yellow color scheme.

This quilt is called Josephine's Star and was made from hand-dyed damask sheets. Incredible, isn't it?

Silken Defiance, made of silk, ultraseude and yarn. This quilt was not only incredibly beautiful and well made but the these two colors together were stunning. The green was almost a bright avocado while the red was a bit more muted in comparison.

You can see silver ribbons running through the corners of some of the photos. The quilts were "roped off" to keep the viewing public a certain distance away from the quilts, but in some cases it was impossible to photograph the quilt without the ribbon. I liked this quilt in one of the vendors booths, not only for the simple pattern, but I thought the color choices were wonderful.

This was also a quilt in one of the booths, which I loved because of the way it was displayed as well as the glorious Kaffe Fassett fabrics. Again, a very simple pattern, but stunning because of the use of colorful fabrics.

Change is coming! In addition to that change, I mean price changes. Westminster Fibers has implemented a new policy concerning "minimum advertised retail pricing" for newly introduced products. That's quite a mouthful, isn't it?

What this means for me is this. One year from the release date of a new fabric, it must be advertised at it's full retail price of $9.50 per yard. This doesn't mean to say that we can't have a sale from time to time, but the majority of the time it's going to be priced at $9.50. Only for the first year, then it can be priced more competitively.
There are a few questions yet to be answered. How is the release date determined for fabrics I already have? Must I change the price of those fabrics to comply with this new policy or do we start fresh as of February 1st? Anyway, for now, anything that I know is new will be $9.50/yard and as I find out more information, those changes will be implemented.
What this means for you is this. If you know of any recently released Westminster/Free Spirit fabric (Free Spirit is owned by Westminster) that you want now might be the time to purchase it. This would be Kaffe Fassett, Phillips Jacobs, Tina Givens, Martha Negley, and Anna Marie Horner fabrics! As of February 1st, the $9.50/yard price will be in effect.
With that said, I want to assure you I will have many sales throughout the year. I will announce sales on this blog as well as through my shop newsletter. If you haven't signed up to receive my newsletter, now might be an ideal time. I don't "pester" my customers with many emails...in fact, I probably send too few!
And remember, this policy does not affect the many other beautiful fabrics I sell OR the Westminster/Free Spirit fabrics that are more than one year old.
ETA: Westminster has decided to postpone implementation of this policy for an unspecified amount of time.
Road to California was great! I'll post some photos in the next couple of days. The quilts were absolutely stunning!
