Finally... a quilting finish for 2017

Well, it's finally done and on the wall. My Jelly Roll Race Gone Plaid... and, I love it!! I finished it 3/31/17 and I'm just a bit surprised it took me so long to complete since I started working on it mid-January. I know I haven't had much time in the sewing room, but mid-January? :))

Actually in my own defense, I've been very busy working out in our yard. Last March I tore out the backyard borders, covered them in newspaper layers, and topped them with bark. In the meantime, I've been pulling any weeds that managed to grow through and finally decided it was time to start planting. We had to rent an auger since there are so many roots from the trees planted behind our property that's it's impossible to dig through. The Auger worked well and it was fun to get a great many holes dug in one afternoon. The majority have been filled with plants which are doing well and there's just one 20 ft area where I'll need professional help since I want to plant another three good-sized palm trees.

My herb garden is doing extremely well. I'll be using a lot of it fresh, and drying quite a bit for my own use, but I have so much I would like to share. If you are in my neck of the woods and would like some fresh herbs, give me a holler via email.

I've also finished the knitting project I have been working on for five months so now I'll have to think of another project to keep me busy in the evenings in front of the tv.

Raising $$ for charities...

I've decided I would like to sell these Dresden Plate quilt blocks that I made in a Kathy Doughty class since I'm trying to raise some $$ for a few of my favorite charities. Although they are technically "plates" and not blocks, I'm referring to them as blocks. I've played and played with them and cannot figure out where to go from here. Hopefully someone out there will love them and have a great use for them.

Ok... here's the scoop. There are 13 blocks in total. To finish each block the two halves need to be sewn together. The photo shows just 1/2 of each block so you can see the diversity. The yellow and blue block on the far left is the smallest of the group measuring 16" across. The yellow and green block in the far upper left is 18" across and the REST of the blocks are 20" across. I didn't realize that I had made two of the blocks smaller until I got them out for this photo. Oh... the second half of the red/pink block on the bottom far left is not sewn together but all the pieces will be included. Easy to sew together... will take five minutes! :)

I was looking through my collection of precut goods in my stash yesterday and came upon these batiks strips that I had forgotten about. I've decided that I'm just not a lover of batiks. I love how they look, but I don't love sewing with them and very, very rarely use them. For that reason, I'm going to destash some of my them over the next little while. I'll start out with these Bali Pops by Hoffman. I bought these for myself when I was selling them in my online shop. There are 40 2 1/2" strips in each package.

I got four more pillowcases made for ConKerr Cancer this last week. That makes 11 total so far. These used a lot of the same fabrics but they're still all a bit different. It feels so good to make these and know it's for such a good cause.
