Midnight at the Oasis center block...

I've re-joined a quilting class that I belonged to about 4 years ago and it meets every Thursday from 9-3. A great group of women with varied interests, it makes for a fun and interesting day. Most of the time we work on projects of our own and it's a place to solicit advice if needed or just spend the day socializing. There's lots of "oohing and aahing" too!

I spent much of the day last Thursday working on my Midnight at the Oasis orange peel blocks, and then yesterday I almost finished my center block. I only have the very center to applique and I've held off till I decide what exactly I want to put there. The pattern calls for three circles, one atop the other, but I'm thinking something a bit more unexpected. We'll see what I can come up with.

I'll admit that I did not enjoy setting in those triangles and I paper-pieced the small triangles (thanks to great info from Sharon), rather than hand piece those tiny things as the pattern suggests. The paper-piecing was easy, but I still had a bit of an issue making them fit the center block and then setting in the triangles. I was ready to start using the ole' seam ripper when I decided to use some starch instead and it really helped it all lay flat. It's by no means perfect - not even close, if I tell the truth - but no one is going to notice it when I get the quilt finished and up on the wall, so it's staying the way it is!

I'm really having a good time with this quilt pattern so far. It's a real challenge for me since it's not the type of quilt I usually make. It's time consuming, lots of tiny pieces, and some hand applique, but I am really enjoying the process anyway. Of course, seeing it come together on the design wall makes it all worthwhile.

Take care,

Terri your block is stunning.! I love all your colors. I see you have started the orange peel. At least an easy block. I do not look forward to the border baskets. I have never made such blocks. Thank you for sharing your lovely block with us.

Wow, you've been busy! I really love the "Midnight" quilt -- the fabrics you chose are very "you" and yet still in keeping with the mood of the quilt. Bless your ambition and hard work -- can't wait to see it finished!

Terri this is gorgeous! I love your choice of background fabric and can't wait to see what you come up with for the center. There's nothing better than seeing the different interpretations of the same pattern and I am so excited about this quilt along!
