Another fire...

This time it's in the Santa Clarita hills (the Powerhouse fire) so it doesn't affect us personally, although we weren't sure we were going to be able to make it through the canyon to get to Leona Valley where we go cherry picking.

When we turned onto Bouquet Canyon Road which leads to Leona Valley, we really couldn't tell exactly where the fire was and in which direction it was burning but we decided to take a chance. We didn't see any roadblocks nor much traffic so felt we were relatively safe in assuming we would be able to get through. The first photo was taken just as we were beginning to get into the canyon.

This photo was taken after we had passed the fire and were looking back at it from Bouquet Reservoir. Pretty impressive, isn't it? It was about 11:30 am and it was already into the 100's.... hot, hot, hot. You can see on the map below where we were when these shots were taken (marked with an x) in relation to the fire location (marked with arrows) and in relation to where we pick cherries.

We did get 44 lbs of cherries and they are clean and in the fridge (in 9 large-size "baggies") getting cold and crisp! That's probably what we'll have for dinner tonight? :)

Life is never dull out our way!

Take care,

100F (37C) is extremely hot and it looks so dry. Glad you got there and back safely and some nice crisp, cold cherries sounds good.

So scary! Glad you trip was successful with no major fire issues. I could eat a handful of cold cherries right now. I'll settle for some pineapple.

Glad you're safe. These fires must be a nightmare for those of you who live out there. Let's hope there will be no more for a long while.

Love your purse organizer -- perhaps you'll sell the pattern when it's ready???
