for almost 8 years now. We just recently painted the entire interior of the house again, but this time using just one color. It was custom mixed for us using Benjamine Moore paint so I don't have a color number or name. But, it was based loosely on Dunn Edwards "Oyster" color, if I remember correctly. We also painted our baseboards white, which DH had been wanting to do for a long time. We both love the new paint and trim and it feels so clean and "new."
This Living Room by BHG looks very similar to our paint color. I just wish this was OUR living room! lol
Now we need new furniture since we've been using what we brought from our old house. Either buy new or reupholster what we have. I'm not opposed to either - it's just finding the right fabric or piece of furniture for our rooms. It's time consuming and exhausting, not to mention expensive, AND, I'm not a good shopper when it comes to that kind of thing.
I have several built-in shelf areas too where I need some good inspiration for decorating so I've been searching...this BHG idea is nice and simple and looks great!
This is nice too...very simple isn't it?
We just recently found the perfect cabinet for our powder bathroom after 2 years of searching. Whew! I think that's why the idea of new furnishings seems daunting. How do you find furniture/furnishings you like for your home? Where do you find ideas?

Isn't it great to have a freshly painted house! Love to do the redesign thing too. But like you, I find it daunting when there are so many other things going on in life. Can't wait to hear how it turns out!
The paint color looks great Terrie! That is more what I intended, but ended up with GOLD - yuk! We've also been in our home eight years and I don't feel it's decorated as I don't want to buy anything to go with that paint! Good luck with yours!
I hate it! About 8 years ago we were looking for new living room furniture. We looked for a year and ended up buying the first couch we had looked at. Recently we replaced this furniture. We purchased the first thing we liked and it only took a few days!
I'm not much of a decorator....if it doesn't fit in my curio cabinet I don't want it....I hate dusting gee gaws LOL. Our place isn't fancy, but the food and company is good :0)

At first glance I thought this was your house. Love the paint color. I know what you mean, I have a hard time finding furniture as well. I like to decorate, but it would be fun to take a decorating class and learn more. Have you seen the decorators online. You send them a photo of your room, tell them what you'd like and they re stage your furniture and add what they think looks good. It's kind of fun to see the before and after and they come up with great ideas. Good luck!
Like you, I look at lots of magazines -- Pottery Barn always has such great ideas for clean and beautiful decorating. I agree -- I wish MY living room looked like that picture. You're right -- it takes so much time to find what you want that I'd rather be sewing.
One solution: I found a great re-upholsterer in our area, and with my coupons from JoAnn's, I've gotten great home dec fabric for as little as $8 a yard. It's much cheaper than buying new, and I get pretty much what I want in style and color.
Good luck -- may the Decorating Muse be with you often during this process.

What fun having a spruce up inside.
I love the idea of the stars in the sand.
I was thinking that first photo was your house, and I was so jealous! We have living room furniture from 20 years ago, and we started wondering about our choice of upholstery fabric about 19 years ago... have been scratching our heads (what were we thinking?) ever since but keep putting off reupholstery because the cat likes to scratch. I need one of those designers to come in a rearrange everything and make it look fresh!
