I guess if I really think about it, the quilt pattern that I have used the most and have enjoyed making the most is the Trip Around the World. It's so versatile and just downright fun. It requires a LOT of different fabrics and that's where the creativity comes in. I always use 2 1/2" strips for my quilts, so today's "jelly rolls", "designer rolls", "Bali-Pops", "strip rolls" - whatever they are called - are just perfect for these quilts.
This quilt was made for the contractor who remodeled our former kitchen. He saw my quilt hanging on my entry wall and innocently asked about it. I knew he was going to be getting married fairly soon, but I was still surprised when he said he wanted a quilt for his new bride as a wedding present and he wanted me to make it. I was very flattered and was thrilled to have a somewhat unusual (for a wedding gift) color palette.....black, red, gold and white. How fun!
He was very happy with the finished quilt and I was happy that he was happy! :)

Oh WOW Terri, that is just beautiful. The guy would have been nuts not to love it...and by marrying the lady he gets to admire it always. What a lovely gift!!

That is a beauty! I think that and log cabin are the 2 that I have made the most of. The Trip around the world quilts work with all kind of fabrics too.
I've never taken that trip Terri - but may have to soon!! Beautiful.
Wow Terri, this is such a beautiful quilt! What a thoughtful guy :-)
Gosh, what a thoughtful guy! His wife must have loved the gift. You're going to have women readers from all over wondering if there are any more at home like this fellow . . .

What a great story and quilt!
Beautiful quilt and what a great gift to give. This guy sounds like quite a catch!
Fabulous quilt! You are right that is a wonderful design to work with. Your story is similar to mine. We had a contractor finishing our basement and he saw my work and wanted me to make a quilt for his wife's upcoming birthday. If I did he would knock off the cost of the quilt off the cost of the basement remodel. It was a done deal! In the end he presented it to his wife and it made her and her mother shed tears.
What a gorgeous quilt! He sounds like he's going to be a very thoughtful husband.
