I've joined the party to help celebrate the launch of Sewn, an innovative new site for sewers.

Sarah Fielke, of Material Obssession fame and who is the new Creative Director for the site says, "the website will have just about everything you can think of that you would want online as a sewer. There are forums, online advice from industry experts, conversion charts, colour wheels, free patterns and class listings. There will be interviews with all your favourite designers, quilters, patterns makers and authors. There will be tutorials with me and with other sewers from here and overseas, podcasts and coverage from shows and articles about all maner of exciting things."

Sounds exciting, right? Well, I'm certainly thrilled to be a part of it all and not only that...this is my first giveaway! One lucky person will win this gorgeous bundle of half-yards from Erin McMorris' new Wildwood line.

To have a chance at winning, all you have to do is leave me a comment on this post. Tell me what prompted you to start sewing and/or quilting. Who taught you? How young were you...that kind of thing.

The winner will be drawn randomly at 8pm on Monday, June 8th. Be sure to visit The Last Piece to enter ALL the wonderful giveaways!

Good luck!

What a nice giveaway! I started sewing with my aunt back in high school. I've always been into crafts and tried just about everything out there, but really found a passion for quilting.

Oooo pretty fabric Terri!! This new site sounds very interesting, I'll have to pop over and see what's going on. What will your tutorial be about or can you say???

I was around 30 when I made my first quilt. At the time I knitted and crocheted and a friend was having a baby. I saw a kit for a Dresden Plate and thought "Shoot I could do that". I remember playing under my great great aunt's quilting frame when I was young, so I guess I caught the bug from her. With that baby quilt, I learned how to hand piece, needle turn applique and hand quilt and I've never looked back.

quilting is in the blood for me, my Mum has always done it and I when I was pregnant with my first child I wanted something handmade and cuddly to wrap him in, so I began this journey.
I've joined in on the fun also, come and see what I'm giving away.

All the females in my family have sewn, but I didn't really take a liking to it until about 15 years ago. Now I'm not into the clothing side of sewing, just the quilting side mostly.

My friend got a sewing machine a couple of years ago, so I borrowed it to make a Halloween costume (I had sewed just a bit as a kid). Hubby saw how much fun I had, and got me a machine for Christmas. I took a quilting class, and learned how to make bags...and it really took off after that! Love this Wildwood line, I really would love to see it in person :)

Love your fabric selection again on today's post. You must have some huge warehouse! I started sewing when my mother gave me sewing lessons at the local Singer store when I was 16. She thought the lessons would keep me out of trouble--not. But it did result in a life long love of fabric and creating something from any and all fibers. Sally

Love the fabric! I took a quilting class 25 years ago where we learned how to make patterns, cut them out with scissors and sew it by hand. My sister in love learned the "Quilt in a Day" method and it revolutionized our quilting. We now use a rotary cutter and a sewing machine. How far we have come :-) Thanks for the great giveaway!

I came from a non-sewing family and learned to sew in home ec. as a freshman in High School. From that point on I made all of my own clothes, my mother's dresses, my grandma's aprons and my dad's and brothers' shirts. I made my first quilt at 17 after reading in a McCall's magazine about how they were made. I have always machine quilted because I didn't know anybody hand quilted.

I'm still learning. Buying a lot of how to books, mostly.

I love those fabrics! I started sewing at the age of 10 - inspired by mom who has been a long time seamstress. I learned the basics in garment sewing through 4-h, and haven't looked back! For quilting I'm entirely self-taught :)

Thanks for sharing!

Well, my grandmother (Mama) taught me how to hand sew when I was about 8. She was making a hexagon quilt at the time using foundation paper piecing. (I now own that quilt and absolutely treasure it).
About a year later, my mum introduced me to a sewing machine.
The rest, as they say, is history.
Thanks for the great giveaway opportunity.

What lovely fabrics! I started sewing by making clothes for my dolls when I was about 8 years old. I was taught by my mother at first, the rest is self taught. I still have some of those first attempts at what I thought were very stylish skirts & tops - always good for a laugh!

I had a church youth leader teach a group of us girls how to quilt.

I love all forms of quilting and hope to try all techniques!

Thanks for the opportunity!

quilting and sewing started for me when I chose to quit my job and stay home after the birth of my oldest DD I started taking classes and the rest is history...my obsession began.
First made a lot of clothes for my girls but as they got older and about 5 years into it quilting just became my choice I no longer wanted to make clothes just quilts!
these fabrics are just so pretty, thank you for a great giveaway!

I started sewing clothing because my mother always sewed. I started quilting, which I always thought was too precise for me, when a quilting friend visited. I thought I'd just try a nine patch and I was hooked.

Hi Terri ! This really sounds exciting ! I just came across it and great you are taking part! I first saw an antique quilt in an open air museum in Holland and resolved that one day... I would make it. ever since have wanted to try quilting but never had time or opportunity. then I saw the film "How to make an American Quilt" and LOVED that quilt! Still no time for a couple of years till finally I bit the bullet and started ! All and all (with breaks) I have been quilting a year now and truly hooked ! Since I have discovered blogging things have really moved along !! much more fun than by yourself and sooo much out there.. patterns, fabric, lovely people, amongst which yourself. Thanks for taking part!

Gorgeous fabrics!! OK so I can't remember a time I wasn't sewing. I would watch my Mum at the sewing machine all the time but I wasn't allowed to use it - I would do things by hand. Then one day when I was about 10 I snuck onto it and made myself a bag to hold my marbles. Ever since then I was allowed to use it! I made all my clothes as a teenager, because while there wasn't money for new clothes, there was always money for fabric:) Now I buy my clothes and make quilts :)

I just found you with your comment on Exuberant Color and you live within fwy range (my son and wife live in Thousand Oaks). I've been sewing all my life (some 50+ years) but quilting seriously only the last 6 years. I started by making baby quilts for my niece's children, then quilts for my daughters-in-law. I'm "self-taught" (home ec major) but soon joined a adult ed class. I learn so much. I'm linking myself to your site, please join my members.

The sound of a sewing machine going is one of my favorite sounds in the world - my mom used to sew and night and I'd fall asleep to the whir of the bobbin winder!

That being said, I can't remember not being able to sew. I started sewing simple things by hand - simple doll clothes and little bags, and learned how to use a sewing machine to make blankets -- and eventually quilts. Quilting has had to take a backseat to "life" lately, but if I win the fabric I promise to quilt them right up! :)

Hi Terri,
Wow, that is such an awesome giveaway and I totally love that fabric. In fact, if I don't win, I might just have to go buy some! I started sewing about 5 years ago to give myself something to do while my husband was playing computer games. My mother in law taught me to make a pillowcase and I was totally hooked. About a year or so after that, I started into the realm of the quilting world and I haven't looked back since! I was about 25 when I started sewing, can you believe it? I wish my grandmother had taught me but she never really wanted to even though she made a lot of my clothes for me. That's about it! I cant' wait to stop by your online shop!

after looking at all his pretty work in the book for some years, I contacted a quilt shop in my area about 7 years ago to ask for a class
you know what, 2 weeks later I had my first lesson and after that I hardly couldn't stop anymore

and now, lost, completly lost and a fabriholic

I am 23 and I have been quilting since I was 12. I have always loved little crafty things, once I started quilting I couldn't stop. I just learned by myself, I would get patterns and just find a way to make it work. I am learning the correct way to do things, but I just kind of make it up.

To me it is a stress relief. The first quilt that I made was after my parents were divorced, it was a way to occupy my mind, and then I would cuddle up in the quilts for comfort! Ever since then I have made quilts for a lot of people around me and am always wanting to start a new project. Every time I get stressed, I quilt and it makes things better.

Oh. My. Stinkin'. Heck.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this line of fabric!

I have always loved quilts. Old ones. New ones. Bright colorful ones. Muted Civil War tone ones. About 4 years ago I made my first one. Then I didn't for about 18 months. But then I started again and it has been full steam ahead ever since.

Love your blog and will be back often!

What beautiful fabrics!

My mums family have always been crafty - sewing, knitting, crochet, paper craft etc. and all of the skills have been 'passed down' from mother to daughter.

I am just starting to get back into sewing, making lots of mistakes along the way, but enjoying it none-the-less!

I started sewing when I was 10 years old. We had just moved to my grandparents farm and I joined the sewing 4-H to get to know the girls in the area. I've been at it ever since. I made most of my clothes in high school (that was in the 60's) and now mostly make quilts. The fabric you are giving away looks like something I sewed with many years ago. Thanks for the giveaway. The new SEWN site looks like it will be a great resource and inspiration.

Ohhhh, great giveaway!!
My mom inspired me to start sewing. She sewed clothes for a family of 8 (how did she find the time?)and later sewed costumes for dance studios, and eventually sewed for grandchildren. She wasn't a quilter but she made dolls and doll clothes and stuff animals and pillows and lots and lots of clothes. She gave me my love for fabric and a desire to create beautiful things.

I love those Wildwoon fabrics! My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 11. She stood behind me as I sewed away on her treadle machine, and reminded me not to go too fast! As if! Later I took sewing in Home Ec and 4-H, and learned the "right" way to sew, but I treasure Grandma's lessons the most.

I've always loved sewing and have only recently discovered quilting. It's such a fabulous, productive craft. I'm finding it hard to concentrate at work as I steal myself away to look at fabric sites, write up my blog and discover other people just like me. Wow Terri I would love the chance to win this gorgeous fabric! My wonderful Mother taught me how to sew and knit and crochet, etc, when I was about 5. Lovely fabric! Thanks for the chance. My first attempt at sewing was when I was about four when my mother taught me cross stitch with a huge needle and hessian. I eventually moved onto hand sewing and then the sewing machine. I stopped sewing for ages because of university but have started again for the past year since buying my own sewing machine and being inspired by all the amazing bloggers out there.

What a wonderful opportunity to win some gorgeous fabric! I began sewing as a new pregnant woman. HAving llittle $$$ in those days, I thought to make myself maternity clothes. A girlfriend helped me understand patterns and off I went. Made ONE maternity top! At least I finished it and wore it through the pregnancy. Next moved onto clothes for the kids...yup, finished those too. THen, tried my hand at quilting. Figured it was cheaper to make a gift for a shower than buy one...don't know how I ever figured that!!!! But, made quilts for every baby in church but my own! How stupid is that. Now, I rarely finish anything except baby quilts (at least my grandkids are sporting some of my stuff).

Beautiful fabric...I was inspired to start quilting from my friend's mom. She is an amazing quilter and her fabric and quilts were right in the middle of the house. Everytime I went over for a visit I would just stare at the beautiful creations. I knew that I wanted to make some of my own.

What beautiful fabric!

I started sewing when I was 27, about 6 months ago. I was probably inspired by all of the blogs that I read, plus my love of homemade gifts and things around the house, and my desire to create and craft. My friends mother-in-law gave me two lessons, and since then I've been teaching myself through blogs and books.

Carol R. said...

My mom and grandmother both quilted. I can remember making Barbie clothes the first year Barbie came out...(hand sewn of course, at the age of about 9). My grandmother was the first to let me actually use a sewing machine when I was 10, and it was to sew quilt blocks for a quilt that became my wedding present from her when I was 18. I have made several quilts, the last one finished in April. I love the process from fabric selection all the way to the last stitch in the binding. It's great therapy.

The fabrics you have chosen are lovely. Thank you for the opportunity to enter your giveaway.

Such incredibly beautiful fabric, I certainly hope luck is on my side this draw! I started quilting at about 15. My sisters and I cut squares of old fabric of our child hood clothes (sewn by my mom) and the squares were for my grandma to quiit...well, she got about 4 rows into it and decided she didnt want to do it. So I did it. All on my own...and it looks like it! Its hilariously crooked and terrible order and I just love it. Nothing I would display or even take out of hiding, but a number of good memories. Ive gotten slightly better since then, and would LOVE to try my hand with this fabric of yours! Thansk for the giveaway!

My grandmother's taught me to sew and I can remember playing on my grandmother's treadle sewing machine at about age 7 or 8. I also remember going to a sewing class one summer at about age 10 and we had a fashion show at the end and modeled what we made. The sewing I love to do best is for my girls, you wouldn't believe how picky it can make them with ready to wear, when they are used to custom made.

Thanks for the generous giveaway! I just started quilting (at age 29). I won some Anna Maria Horner fabric (lucky me!), and had no idea what to do with it. Then I saw a tutorial for a charm quilt and figured I'd give it a try. Now I'm hooked!

I love these fabrics! Just gorgeous.

I started sewing when I was a kid, probably 7 or 8 because my mom was a quilter. I hand sewed a few squares together while my mom worked on other projects. Then fast forward until I was in college when I found a pile of grandmother's flower garden blocks that my mom had made for a quilt for me and never finished. We made some more blocks together and then I put the top together myself. I hand quilted it and haven't stopped since!

I can't wait to check out your blog more. I love all the vibrant colors!

This is such a great giveaway! I learned to sew as a child but never did much of it. My mom and I started a quilt the summer after my first year of college...and I HATED it! Hated the cutting, hated the sewing, didn't understand how it would all go together. It never really stuck until I got engaged and started "nesting" as it were. My mom pulled out the barely-started quilt from that summer and MADE me finish it, and I'm so glad I did! It turned out beautifully and got me hooked on sewing of all kinds!

Even though I almost flunked home ec in high school (at the end of two years while everyone else was sewing two piece suits or lovely dresses, I was "allowed" to make placemats! LOL) I've always been an optimist who kept thinking "maybe next time it will turn out". And when I started quilting, it did! I was a young mom with two little ones at home and I started with pillow covers, gradually progressed to regular size quilts, and now am tending more toward art quilts or wall quilts. So many ideas, so little time!

The Sewn website is going to be exciting. I can't wait for it to start up!

I started sewing when I was about 5 or six. I got my first sewing machine when I was 11 and started making my own clothing. Later on I made my children clothes. I smocked, appliqued, and had so much fun designing their clothes. When they got too old for me to make their clothes, I started quilting. I've been quilting for 13 years. I belong to a Quilt Guild, and I teach others to quilt.

I'm doing the the nine patch a day and the quilt along, too. You're way ahead of me, but I can catch up!

I started sewing when I was about 11, my mother taught me on an old treadle Singer that my grandmother had shipped to my mom from Pennsylvania to California when I was born in 1946. Your fabrics are fabulous and I would love to win them. Thanks for the chance.

I started sewing in high school, 20 years ago. It was something I kind of learned as I went along. My mom doesn't like to sew, and my dad always jokes how it must have skipped a generation :)

I love sewing children's clothing, and am just starting making bags and purses. I'd love to make a quilt one day as well.

Thanks for the great giveaway.

WOW! What a generous giveaway! That fabric is beautiful! I started sewing and quilting 2 years ago...and funny you should ask, it was actually Sarah Fielke that taught me. I was inspired by Sarah's shop at a Quit show and decided to sign up to Sarah's classes...and am still going!!

Hope you are lucky enough to win something too! I've enjoyed reading your blog and will be back!
Thanks for the chance to win!

oh, such a gorgeous fabric bundle! thanks so much for the opportunity!

i started sewing using fabric scraps (my mom's only 5'2", so she always had scraps from hemming!) to make barbie clothes. i think lots of people start out that way! and my first attempt at quilting was inspired by reading the Anne of Green Gables and the Little House on the Prairie books.

Thanks for the chance. I started quilting when I was 23, and down and out with endometriosis. While I am no longer burdened with this problem, I continue to quilt for the joy it brings to my life. And to the lives of those I make quilts for:)

What a generous giveaway! I actually started sewing about 2 months ago. (Major newbie!) I used to have a photography studio in my house, then we lost our house to mold, and my new place has no room for a studio, I had to create SOMETHING, so i dug out my sewing machine that my hubby got me 2 years back. Who knew I would love it so much? I am now an addict. ;)

I grew up watching the women in my family sew. It was always assumed I'd learn, I just never did. Now that I'm older and starting a family, I've found that its just more economical to sew rather than buy. Some of my favorite clothes were the ones my mom made, and I want that for my kids too. Unfortunately, mom's too far away to teach me. I've had to teach myself to sew by trial and error and reading wonderful blogs like this.

Yummy fabrics and a generous giveaway. I got into quilting because I saw a colourwash pansy quilt by Yan Pring hanging in a shop and that was it - I was sucked in good and proper!

I'm so glad I joined in celebrating Sewn's launch tomorrow. It is proving to be a marvelous way to meet new friends and learn about their blogs.

Please don't worry about adding my name to the drawing for your lovely fabrics. I have enough blessings in my life and just wanted to stop by and wish you the best of luck (your name is in my drawing).

Nice fabric. I've just recently really started to try an sew. Growing up my mom and grandmothers sewed. My mom is my teacher. Too bad we don't live closer, so I can receive more of her instruction.

I Hated Sewing when I was a young girl!! Maybe because I didn't get to pick my own fabric and was told what pattern to sew etc... now, being a grown-up, I can pick and choose exactly what I want....and I want it all!!! It was a friend who showed my her stash one day, which pushed a button deep down inside me which said "Go and Sew".
