You can use vintage fabrics or newer contemporary ones, but they will all look great! It just depends upon the look you're going for.

Look at all the cute totes, purses, and bags on the Better Homes & Gardens website! There are 10 "simple to make" patterns provided and they are really nice! Go take a look!
