On Friday, I took Deana Hartman's "Need to Bead" workshop in Santa Barbara sponsored by the Coastal Quilters Guild of Santa Barbara and Goleta.
Deana is one of the most gracious and generous teachers I've met. For a novice, her class was wonderful since she supplied us with all of the necessary materials and demonstrations that we needed to get started. There were no headaches in trying to assemble supplies that were foreign to us. In addition to learning all about beads and their various types, size, colors, and shapes, she showed us all the basic and advanced stitches and then elaborated on their use. The part I loved the most because I see it as the most creative aspect of beading was the "bead collage" and learning those techniques.
Deana also very generously allowed me to photograph all of her quilts so I'll show you just a few of the details. You'll have to visit her website to see the quilts in their entirety. It was a real treat to see them "up close and personal". All in all, a very fun day and we went home happy and exhausted. I've been dreaming about beading and bead collages every night since our class and I sure get a lot more done in my dreams than I do in real life. ;-)
Her quilts are almost all very colorful and bright. Look at the detail....
And, you'll notice she does seem to have a theme running through her quilts...
There were lots of little surprises on her quilts so you had to look very closely to see it all...
All of the quilts she brought were wallhanging size or smaller. She even had lovely Needle cases that were very inspiring.

Her quilts are beautiful, and so many beads! Is the last picture your bead collage?
The gorgeous bead collage is one that Deana was working on during our workshop. I worked on mine during class but it isn't far enough along to post yet. ;-)
