of airing my dirty laundry with you, but my DH made a comment the other day while looking in my laundry basket.
He said, "do you realize how many hours of work are in that basket?" He's right, there are many, many hours worth of work (pleasure) involved in knitting all of those socks. It's interesting to me that he got it. He's always been my most fervent admirer, especially of all things "hand made." Yep, I'll be the first to admit it, he's an enabler in the very best sense of the word. He's always encouraged me to get the best tools, the nicest fabrics, etc. In fact, he's honed his skills so well that now he has a very good sense of color and he can invariably pick out fabrics that I love. I'm pretty lucky, aren't I?
Are your husbands the same? Are they involved in your passion with you or do they sit on the sidelines? Do they encourage you? Do they get it?
Wow! I thought I was a prolific knitter! My husband was my best support of my evil sewing/fabric/quilting buying habit. And his taste was impeccable, even though his taste leaned more towards that traditional fabric while mine taste is for brighter colors/wacky designs. But he knew what I liked and could put things together in a heartbeat. He was great fun to take fabric shopping. Sounds as if you and your husband are quite a compliment to one another.
ReplyDeleteYour hubby is definitely a keeper :0) I often use Bob as a sounding board and he's usually right. I could never get him into a quilt shop but he doesn't mind if I hang out there.

Oh, Yes, I am so lucky to have a supportive husband also. And, he too, will often check in with me in my sewing room just to see what I'm working on at the moment. Even though he calls it my sweat shop, he knows I love being there working frantically on a new idea before it gets away!
ReplyDeleteI'm also lucky to have a supportive husband, although he doesn't volunteer that fact very often. I guess I could say he's a silent supporter. I usually only hear compliments when he's talking to somebody else about my quilting.
ReplyDeleteIf I'm wondering out loud whether to buy a new tool or get a new book or invest in a new machine, his answer is always yes. He trusts my judgment (although he has no idea of the total $$ I've spent on my passion of quilting.)
He has a couple pricey hobbies, but I don't question his purchases and he doesn't question mine. We're a compatible couple in that respect.
There ARE a lot of hours in that basket! How sweet of your husband to notice. Yes. My husband is a real cheerleader too! I'm thankful.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine the hours that are represented in that basket -- with beautiful results! I'm a lucky gal, too -- not only is my hubby very supportive, he loves to cook and is happy to prepare dinner while I get in a little more studio time. Couldn't ask for more than that!

It's so awesome that your husband gets it (and you) so well! My husband is a HUGE supporter of my fiber habits. He's not to the point where he can pick out fabric he thinks I'd like though. But I did come home from knitting tonight to a just cooked dinner and a clean kitchen!
ReplyDeleteI would love just one pair of those in my laundry basket!
ReplyDeleteMy husband is very much like yours, although he probably knows not that I will never have time to use everything I have, BUT DOESN'T SAY IT!
My spouse is definitely supportive- he doesn't groan when I buy fabric, will go with me to a quilt show and helps me figure out the correct math when I am having trouble with it.
ReplyDeleteHe has bought both of my sewing machines ( under advisement of a quilt friend) and is all around fan of my quilts.
I consider myself a a fortunate woman.
Regards,
Anna
Aren't we all lucky to have such proud and supportive husbands. Mine comes to all the quilt shows, takes me to far away shops and compliments me on everything I make. I do love handmade socks but I've yet to have a go, you look like you can make them in your sleep.
