Amy started Friday and I'm just a little late to the party. I really wanted to show you my finished
"Scrappy String," but I just didn't have time to get it finished. Instead, I'm going to show you a Trip Around the World quilt that I finished this year. I love this quilt and I love how well the fabrics blended when it was finished. The not knowing what it will look like when finished is really the fun part of this quilt.
I used 2 1/2 strips and 24 different fabrics.
These two fabrics were my inspiration...
I started it in January of 2011 and finished it in January of 2012.
As you can see from the variation in the photos, I've had a terrible time getting some good shots of this quilt. I've been trying since I finished it in February...I've been carrying it around in the car looking for good locations and lighting...and I just haven't been able to get any that I really like.
I hope you've enjoyed seeing my quilt. If you haven't made a "Trip" yet, I encourage you to try it. It's a great learning quilt for color and combining fabrics and it's just a lot of FUN!!

ReplyDeleteTerri, I'm thrilled to have found you and your shop. Love your quilt and inspiration taken from the seashell fabric. Great color scheme! I absolutely love Kaffe Fassett and Philip Jacobs fabrics which make up a huge part of my stash. Check out my quilt entry which is also my very first pattern and features mostly Kaffe fabrics.
ReplyDeleteit's beautiful, Terri -- I never would have thought to put all those fabrics together! Did you strip piece and then cut? I've made "trip" quilts before using Bonnie Hunter's scrappy instructions, but haven't ever tried to make something that coordinated well...

ReplyDeleteThis looks like a "Boston Common" pattern. Beautiful, and your choices of fabrics makes it work. It looks so busy up close, but it all works!

ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you didn't get to finish your strippy quilt but I'm just as glad to see this one. It's awesome. I made one a few years ago and vowed NEVER to work with so many and such small squares. Seems to matter how I pressed the seam allowances one row or another never wanted to cooperate. I love yours and thanks for showing the cards of how you organized the strips. Another beauty!
