Hi Barbara! Welcome to Quilternity's Place and thanks for asking me to participate in the tour for your wonderful book.
I was wondering if you ever enter contests?
"Yes, I have entered contests in the past. As time moves on I am getting busier and busier and I can see entering contests fading out of my life. Don't hold me to that though. Here are three quilts which I have entered in contests. The first two pictures were taken at the Virginia Quilt Museum http://www.vaquiltmuseum.org/ where I was the curator for my family in "Five Generations of Mennonite Quilts" quilt exhibit."
What is your favorite process of quilt making?
"That is a hard question to answer because I enjoy it all. I get excited about designing and what I have come up with and then I love to pick out fabrics. Cutting is probably the least favorite but I even enjoy that. Sewing the quilt together is so rewarding because your ideas come alive, or not come alive. Deciding on what to quilt is great because the quilting adds to the design of the quilt. And last but not least the binding is relaxing because at the end of a day I can prop my feet up and visit with my family while I bind the quilt."
What I particularly like about Star Struck Quilts are the clever ways Barbara shows for diversifying the basic traditional Lone Star quilt pattern. There are so many possibilities! You can mix 'n match blocks and center stars for up to 27 different quilts. Plus, she shows you how to design a quilt that is like no other - your own unique quilt! And, she makes it seem so easy. I'm always in awe of the mind that can conceive of these concepts.
In addition, Barbara talks a bit about fabric selection, which is an important aspect, I think, when making quilts like these and something that is a stumbling block for many quilters.

I loved the questions. . . especially about entering contests.
Have a great day,
Sherry V.
I have finished one lone star quilt -- it has a Halloween theme and I will be putting it up this week (as soon as the kids leave for school)! I'd love to be part of the giveaway!
I have made a Virginia star but never a Lone Star. This book looks very interesting.
Those quilts are breathtaking!
Lone star is on my list of one day I would like to make but I have never attempted it because of all the diamonds involved :O)
I haven't seen some of these other photos of her quilts. She is amazing! I really want that book and am trying ever so hard :)
What a nice interview! I love the diversity of her designs. Thanks for your insightful questions also.

Enjoyed your interview--Barbara's quilts are fantastic! I have an unfinished (and blah) Lone Star that could definitely use some jazzing up!
I have not attempted a lone star quilt. Would really like to win a copy of Barbara's book and try some of these star patterns. Thank you for the giveaway.
I have made a couple and they are kind of difficult and fussy but beautiful when finished. I LOVE the quilts in her book and would love to win a copy.
I sure wish I had seen that exhibit at the VA Quilt Musuem. It looks fabulous. This book looks like a real winner. Kathie L in Allentown

I Love the design that Barbara has on her book, it really stands out using black and red, with the grey and a little of the white to make it pop. I started a lone star last year and have two sections done, don't want to rush things. Hoping to finish it next year. As soon as I find it. Carol
I've never tried stars. I'm terrified of points. Maybe once I've had a little more experience.
The intrigue of Barb's original designs is so captivating! I have enjoyed each of the visits to the different sites.

Oh I absolutely love that first quilt posted. Such a gorgeous one.
I know I really need to have this book now if there is information about picking fabrics. That's THE hardest thing I have to deal with and what has stopped me from doing something other than a baby quilt to date.
No I have never attmepted a Lone Star quilt. I have just always looked at them in awe when I see them! Here's hoping one day I will!!

Wow she has beautiful quilts. I haven't tried a lone star quilt yet but it is on my to do list.
More nifty information about Barbara. And I like the look of your website here. Bookmarking so I can come back this evening. Love the colors I see splashed around.
You can contact me at KFicken at gmail dot com or through my blog link.
Wow! They are amazing designs, and having just straight cuts, they might be perfect for the guy who is scared of curves.
Wow...those pics of Barbara's quilts are amazing!!!!!
I have never done a lone star but have wanted to for years.
I did one tiny lone-star block when I made my Nearly Insane quilt a few years ago, and I've been thinking about making a full-size one... but I guess I need to win a copy of the book to get me started!
I liked the question/answer about entering contests, too. Great job! :)
Wow!!! Those quilts are breathtaking!!
I have never tried to make a lone star quilt before, but I think I am up to the challenge now!
Thank you for the interview with Barbara. :)
I have never made a Lonestar quilt, but it is definitely on my long list of quilts to make. I love this book more every day I read about it. I hope I win it. Good interview. Winona
Barbara's quilts are stunning. I especially like the third contest quilt that reminds me of a dahlia. I have never made a Lone Star quilt, but it has been at the top of my must make list since I became interested in quilting. When I get up the nerve, I will make one.
I have never attempted a Lone Star quilt. That is on my "to do" list for the future. Thanks for the giveaway chance!
I love star quilts in all forms and fashions! I have attempted the blazing star quilt and that was hard enough, I can't imagine a Lone Star Quilt. Thanks for a great interview and great giveaway.

I just found your blog and I love it. You really inspire me. Is the giveaway still open?
the stars are too difficult for me because I can't seem to eye them up correctly--the seams to sew when they are 'offset' or 'y-seams'. When the time is right, I'll get a sign so until then!!
I'd love a copy of this book, the quilts are stunning! Thanks for the chance to win it or some of the other goodies!

The quilts look beautiful!
Wow! Barbara is such a talented quilter. I am in awe just seeing her quilts. No, I have not made a lone star quilt but would love to do so.
Lone Star quilts are beautiful, but I have always felt intimidated by them. Maybe I'll win this great skill building book.
Thanks for the interview with Barbara, Terri, and for sharing photos of some of her fantastic work with us.
I have made a lone star quilt... with delectable mountains border. It included a lot of paper piecing. Unfortunately, it was not until the top was done that I noticed I had inadvertently used 2 different black fabrics-- had to rip it out!

Oh I just love those stars! Thanks for the chance to win this book!
Great questions, Terri! What a prolific designer and quilter she is. I am floored by the intricacy of her star quilts. Lone Star has long been on my list of quilts to make but I have not made one--too skeered of all those bias edges I guess! Thanks for the opportunity to win.
I've never made a lone star quilt but I've admired them for years and hope to make one someday.
I would be very happy to win this beautiful book, thanks for the chance !
Thank you for the give away, this book has some gorgeous quilts in it!

Thank you Terri, for hosting this part of the blog book tour. I am a newbie's newbie to the quilt world. Although, I am learning lots from the wonderful blogs. I have NOT yet tried a Lone Star pattern. The closest I've gotten, is wearing my 3 year old son's sheriff badge!
