New Iron and giveaway...

Before I forget, I want to know if I'm the only one experiencing problems with "Quilters Blogs" updating in Google Reader. It has been so easy to get all the updates in "reader" without having to actually visit the Quilters Blog website (AllQuilting.Biz) - which I forget to do. It has been working wonderfully until about a two weeks ago and now it rarely updates. I don't know what changed. I thought for awhile that it was something I was doing, but I don't believe that to be the case any longer. Anybody else having this problem? Anybody know what's going on?

I got a new iron and I love it!! I do. I'm only mentioning it here because I always see the ongoing conversation in blogland regarding good/bad irons. I love to iron and I do a lot of ironing, so it's important to have a good one. Isn't it pretty? I love the lime green color. My old one was pretty too...it was blue. It's a Sunbeam Steam Master which is the same model as my old iron, with one important upgrade. The old one was a 30-minute auto turn-off, which meant it was always turning off while I was still ironing. The new one is a motion-sensor auto turn-off  and won't turn off until I'm actually finished ironing. These irons also have a great self-clean feature that really works. This one also has a stainless steel soleplate - which is always what I look for, but can't always find. Reminds me of my mothers old Sunbeam iron that lasted f-o-r-e-v-e-r!!

The old iron lasted for 2 1/2 years which is 1 1/2 years longer than any other iron I've owned in the last 15 years. That's why I decided to get the same, but upgraded, model of the Sunbeam. About a month ago, the old one started spitting water and brown, rusty stuff from the soleplate. I always clean my soleplate regularly, but it just wouldn't come clean this time. I've had three Rowentas (which were the worst of all the irons I've owned) and a couple of cheapie Black & Deckers (which were fine, but didn't last longer than a year each). These Sunbeams are the best and I highly recommend them - especially if you use a lot of steam, like I do!!

BTW, I had a pretty good response to my linkup with Bonnie's Saturday Yard Sale. As you can see, I sold a few items and now I'll be adding some more for the next yard sale. I got a lot of traffic from Bonnie's site since she has so many followers. I'm still pondering whether to have my own Yard Sale or just continue to participate in hers every month. I've got to think about that a bit more. I appreciate those of you that said you were interested in participating if I do it.

Don't forget to enter my giveaway if you haven't already. Go here to leave a comment. You have until Midnight, EST tonight 4/10/12. Good luck!

Take care,

  1. Oh, the fun the of a new iron, and the pain when you have to replace an old one. I hope your Sunbeam is an exception to your two-year rule.
and yes, I've been noticing less blog traffic and slow updates on Google Reader. I press the refresh button and then the new postings appear.

  2. I have not had any problems with Google reader, BUT I did have my Blog go away!! There was a message that there was suspicious activity and Google wanted me to sign back in. When I tried to sign in, it took me to a page for a special code. I had read about it already on Old Glory Cottage blog. Really scary. I am thinking this may have to do with all the changes and updating going on. You can read what happened at Old Glory

  4. i, too, have converted to Sunbeam irons. i have a small tip- (if you use steam) when filling the water reservoir, turn the steam setting to the 'off' position. This will help it not spit later in it's life. i did this with my previous sunbeam and it lasted for at least 3 years!

a new iron is a nice thing!

I don't have a blog, but I access them through quilterbiz and I've noticed a real mess in the last 2 weeks. No updates, disjointed timing...just a mess.
